Moor Hall golf day raises over £20,000 for BLESMA

Fundraisers teed up a £20k plus charity donation at a recent Sutton Coldfield event. The Moor Hall Golf Day for BLESMA brought together 104 golfers for a special day of golf and fundraising.

The charity day has raised an incredible £20,655.64 for BLESMA – the Limbless Veterans (formerly the British Limbless Ex-Servicemen’s Association) – with further donations expected to increase the final total.

Held on September 29, the event united golfers, veterans, supporters and local businesses at the club. It was organised by a team with close personal links to the Armed Forces and to BLESMA’s work supporting injured veterans.

A golf day close to the organisers’ hearts

Several organisers have served in the Armed Forces and lost friends and comrades in recent conflicts. They understand only too well the importance of BLESMA’s work to support injured veterans.

Their fundraising began last year when a team completed the Three Peaks Challenge, raising more than £5,000. This year, they set themselves an even bigger challenge – staging their first charity golf day in just three months.

104 golfers swing in

With Moor Hall’s course in superb condition and the weather playing its part, 104 enthusiastic competitors – including nine BLESMA members – enjoyed a fantastic day. The event included on-course challenges and Beat the Professional, followed by excellent food and hospitality in the clubhouse and a hugely successful evening of fundraising.

A big thank-you to supporters

Alex Trigg, one of the organisers, a Moor Hall member and a Veteran, said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who made the day possible – our players, sponsors, donors, volunteers and everyone who gave so generously.

“We are also incredibly grateful to Moor Hall Golf Club and its members. The response throughout the day was overwhelming and has given us a wonderful foundation to build on for the future.”

Building a lasting partnership

The organisers now hope the Moor Hall Golf Day will mark the beginning of a lasting relationship between BLESMA and Moor Hall Golf Club, supporting the charity’s work for limbless veterans for years to come.
